Description

People have made the first black teas in the Wuyi region. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, Wuyi Mountains are one of the few tea growing areas in the world protected from ecological harm. Due to this, Wuyi is beneficial for tea growing due to the exceptional terroir: the minerality of the soil, pure water quality and air. The distinctive terroir of this region influences the higher prices of the teas produced here. The majority of tea growers here are small farmers. You can read more about this famous tea region in this article.

The leaves of Wuyi Black tea come from Qi Zhong (meaning ‘strange’ or ‘unique’) cultivar. Native to the Wuyi region, the cultivar is a mixture of indigenous varietals. Good teas made from this cultivar lack bitterness and astringency.
